Dancing for Your Life
California Moves - with a Latin Edge
She took it to professional heights winning at a national televised dance competition, and then instructing her own dance classes around Los Angeles. In recent years, she moved into the video dimension with her own series based on Latin dance moves: "I felt I needed to start with that early salsa experience and it’s been a great success." In Red Hot Salsa Made Simple, for instance, Lisa leads a 45 minute session: "We start with the basic warm-up, where you’re learning the basic steps a little bit slower. I have a live percussionist in the video as well, which gives it a lot of energy. We work on your foundation, then we go into the workout portion where we pick up the pace a little. I teach one step at a time, then repeat it and then we add on, so by the end of the video it’s been non-stop and you’ve had a cardio workout and learned a whole combination. So, you’re also learning choreography. And then we cool down, we go back to basics, and then we stretch out."Rhythms for Strength, Stamina, Stimulation
Having moved to the west coast over two decades ago, Lisa almost immediately began structuring her cardio classes to motivate people with stimulating dance routines. It eventually became the basis for putting the video workouts together. "I see people on treadmills walking slowly or I see people on the bike reading a book, and it’s hard for me to see how they’re going to get a sufficient cardio workout if they’re not working that hard," she observes. "I just feel that with the energy and inspiring music in my videos, it just brings it all together and makes it very enjoyable. I think people need to choose things that excite them, then they’re more consistent and they stay with their program a little bit longer and make it a way of life."Stepping into a New DecadeAs a new decade begins, Lisa has developed a busy agenda of dance-related appearances - judging; teaching; consulting - and along the way promoting her line of dvd's which now include Dance with Lisa: Red Hot Salsa - I and II, Dance to Enhance, and 5 Day Latin Dance System. Recently she talked about her most recent activities and the upcoming year.
